At The Hilltop School, we strive to help children develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically by providing flexible, innovative, and pleasurable childcare.
This is accomplished through our various everyday academic programming:
Stimulates curiosity and aids cognitive development. S.T.E.A.M. activities stand for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. They aim to teach children from an early age trial and error and that it is acceptable to fail as it is a natural part of the learning process. It encourages children to be innovative and hands-on learners.
This program encourages children to express themselves through music and movement. Music classes encourage children to learn patience while also strengthening their connections with their peers. Music helps children's intellectual capacity while also teaching them discipline.
Engages children's bodies and minds, assisting them in developing strength, flexibility, and balance. Yoga helps children enhance their concentration and focus while broadening their awareness of their surroundings. It can also help children cope with stress and regulate their emotions.
Practical Life activities are those that take place in everyday living and are involved in all parts of life. The child observes these actions in the environment and develops knowledge of how to achieve life skills in a meaningful manner through real-world experience. These activities are culturally and geographically relevant to the child's age and location. Practical life activities assist to build a sense of being and belonging in the child, which is established via involvement in daily life with us. The child learns about his culture and what it is to be human through real living. Practical Life activities help children develop self-confidence and independence while also preparing them for other parts of learning.
Encourages children to express their emotions, gain self-confidence, appreciate the arts, and learn new ways to communicate. Drama aids in the development of children's language skills and their numeracy abilities. It is an excellent way to educate children more about the world around them while also assisting with physical development.
These activities aid in the development of self-control, gross motor skills, such climbing, running, jumping and throwing the ability to be polite members of society, and conflict resolution skills in children. Outdoor activities develop spatial and body awareness.
Teaches vocabulary such as alphabet, numbers, greetings, and so on, through games, stories, and songs. Language aids the child's ability to communicate, express, and comprehend emotions. It also helps with cognition and problem-solving, as well as establishing relationships. Understanding, using, and enjoying language is a critical first step in literacy and the foundation for learning to read and write.
In a Montessori classroom, children learn the phonetic sounds of the letters before they learn the alphabetical names. The teacher introduces the sounds with the Sandpaper Letters. Only the lower-case forms of the letters are used since most words in books are printed with these letters. Pre-reading exercises are made more difficult if the child is first taught the upper-case letters and their alphabetical names.
Both English and Spanish have Latin roots. Studying Spanish broadens children's understanding of the English language and how different languages evolve, which can aid in the acquisition of English vocabulary. Acquiring language skills comes naturally and easily during early development. Prior to the age of six, a child's ability to pronounce unfamiliar, foreign sounds and absorb new grammar rules is greatly enhanced. Knowing Spanish will aid your child to understand and appreciate other cultures and Hispanic cultural contributions. Children who learn two languages perform better in terms of communication, memory retention, and multitasking, all of which are beneficial academically. As the child begins to translate from English to Spanish, they will develop natural language multitasking skills that will support them throughout school.
